Musik Mundi: Starsailor

The cutie that is Brandon Flowers just released his solo album Flamingo this week. His voice is so seksi! I listened to one of the songs from the album, Crossfire, and decided that I wasn't really feeling it. So instead, I chose to put up a song where he made a little guest appearance. He does back up vocals for one of Starsailor's songs, whose lead vocals guy sounds like Bon Jovi. So double seksi! On a totally different note, my Bravo hero role-model Andy Cohen wrote about going to Gay-by shower. You know, when two gay guys have a baby. That is hilariously awesome! I would so give up my life here in Houston to be his personal assistant.

Trippin': New York City - Morimoto

88 10th Avenue
New York, NY 10011

For our one nice dinner in NYC, we went to Morimoto's, which would be my second time dining there. Everyone ordered the omakase except for me. I mainly went for the company since I'm not big on most seafood. Overall, everyone was in agreement that the entire meal was slightly disappointing. For the money that you pay, you expect it to be the best that the chef has to offer, but it really fell short compared to my first experience there. This seems to be the case a lot as of late. Everyone ended up naming different places where they've had better, and that's never a good sign.

Restaurant: Canopy

3939 Montrose
Houston, TX 77006

We run. We walk. We eat. That summarizes Sunday mornings. Well, some Sundays at least. We had brunch at Canopy one Sunday afternoon after pounding the pathway at Memorial park. We had us some normal breakfast food that really wasn't a good example of what their food is all about. I'll mos def come back during dinner or even lunch time to give their actual menu a try. One thing I've noticed about the new crop of restaurants in Houston is that they are against moving tables to accommodate big parties. They either have big tables already available or they'll add a table from the back/storage but they won't adjoin two tables on the floor that are next to each other. I guess I can kinda sorta understand why they don't want to do that. Kinda. Sorta. Maybe they're against messing up the layout and distorting the look of the dining area? Iono. I'll have to remember to inquire about that next time. I love how Canopy has nice and big floor to ceiling windows that allow lots of natural lighting to pour into the restaurant. There's this whole earthy vibe with enlarged fotos of trees and ceiling art that resembles an incomplete birds nest.

Trippin': New York City - Momofuku Milk Bar

207 2nd Ave
New York, NY 10003

Momofuku Milk Bar was one of the places that I wasn't able to go to on my first trip to NYC so I was pretty intent on not letting that happen again. The main things I wanted to try were the pork belly buns, compost cookie and the crack pie. The pork belly buns are constructed in the way of peking duck. The pork was incredibly fatty, maybe more than I had expected. I was hoping it would have more of a sear or crisp to it but instead, it was all very melt in your mouth and super greasy. You get two for nine bucks. One pork belly bun is more than enough. The crack pie was buttery, sugary and a diabetic episode waiting to happen. This isn't something you want to eat by yourself even though you might consider it since each bite leaves you wanting just a little bit more. The compost cookie made a good snack. It wasn't out of this world but was pretty interesting since it was made with so much junk: pretzels, potato chips, coffee, oats, butterscotch, chocolate chips. I also made the mistake of getting some coffee milk. It was darn good but with the extreme heat outside, drinking something milk based was not smart. Being the spontaneous and impulsive shopper that I am, I wasn't able to talk myself out of buying a MILK tote, which sits in my room. Untouched. Unused.
