Musik Mundi: La Roux

On Sunday, some friends and I went to the La Roux concert at the House of Blues. So awesome! Elly Jackson is a frackin' amazing live performer. All of us had such a good time dancing to the songs. Unfortunately, I decided not to bring the big camera into the concert cos I was afraid that I would get thrown out or my camera could get taken up. But I would never let that happen cos you KNOW I would throw a huge fit and make an avalanche of a commotion if the hands of House of Blues came anywhere near my camera. Miss Fabulous took some group fotos of us and I bugged her about sending them to me. Which is funny cos I get so annoyed when others do that to me. Haha! I really wish I could have taken fotos of Elly doing her thing on stage. I love her dance moves! La Roux started off with my second favo song from their album, Tigerlily and ended with Bulletproof as the encore performance. I worked up a sweat! I've listened to the album before and thought it was okay. Listening to them live made me really really like the album cos they were that good. At one point, La Roux brought up a fan onstage so that everyone could sing happy birthday to her. She took advantage of Elly's kindness by asking to stay on stage and perform a song with her. Someone had to come out to drag her arse off the stage so that La Roux could continue on. Crazy drunkkard. One thing that was no joke were the prices of the drinks at HOB. They have some of the highest prices in Houston that's for sure.

Event: Menu of Menus

As lazy as I am, I tend to get restless and am always looking for things to do. So when I learned of the Houston Press' Menu of Menus, I sent a mass e-mail to my friends, which really isn't that massive of an e-mail list, and got some people to come with me. It certainly didn't hurt that a friend had a booth there and hooked me up with some free VIP passes which meant that I got to go in an hour before the rest of the normal pack and eat it up first. YES! Thanks to Voodoo and Rock! OMG. I really wish I could eat as much as I used to. That's prolly the reason for my chubs now. Haha. I get full a lot faster now but I also gain weight a lot easier. Sux so bad. The food there was okay. There were some notables such as the frozen custard at Ritter's, the chicken salad at Georgia's Market, most of the stuff at Laurenzo's, Teahouse!, Simply Splendid Doughnuts! (haha), and smattering of other things that I can't remember cos this event took place in mid April. It was awesome having the VIP pass cos there were basically no lines and no crowds but when they started letting everyone else in, it got soooo packed and I was sweating cos it was so darn hot. I think I need to be VIP all the time. Hee haw. Man. And those lines! Frackin' crazy long lines. I guess the economy really is picking up again. The event took place at the new West Ave housing and shopping center. Super nice!

Trippin': San Antonio - Tony Roma's

After big poppa and I settled into our hotel, we ventured out to find something to eat. I want to say that I think I remembered hearing that Tony Roma's has good ribs and so we ended up at the one located at the Rivercenter Mall. Big poppa and I shared the babyback ribs and lobster combo. It was all meh ... Meat was fall of the bone but you could tell the quality was sub-par. Flavor wise, it was headed in the right direction but it wasn't satisfying. The sign says that Tony Roma's is famous for it's ribs. If this is as good as it gets, then I'm scared to think of what the other items on the menu are like. Gah! I kept calling this place Tony Romo's. Haha. I really should have yelped this place before going. It averaged only two stars out of seven. I don't think I'll be going back.

Gastron Om Nom: Chicken Wings

Whenever the subject of NYC comes us, either big poppa or I will almost always bring up those fracking' good arse and addicting chicken wings from Mad For Chicken. OMG. SO GOOOOODDDDD! SO LIIIIIGGHHHT! SO CRRIIIISSSPPPY! Since that trip, I kept telling myself to try to re-create those wings. I tried, and I failed. I am the WORST at frying things. I must be the only person on earth who can deep fry something in oil and have it come out soft and uncrunchy. So my wings were nothing close to being light and crispy. And then my sauce came out too sweet and a lot more viscous. It's supposed to have this nice soy garlic glaze. Nothing went right. Argh. This might be the last time I ever fry anything. So much work and it's so messy!

Musik Mundi: Eminem

With the NBA Finals going on right now, big poppa has me watching all the games. And if you have also been watching the games, you'll have already heard Eminem's new song being used all over the place. This is mos def the Eminem that I like. That last song he came out with was pretty blah and was reminiscent of the My Name Is days. This reminds us that white boys can rap. Or rather, a white boy can rap. Now if only an Asian guy can do us proud.
