Labor day weekend really threw me off. I kept thinking it was Sunday all day today and almost missed some key television shows. Metric has a song out on the Eclipse soundtrack. Love the song. Not the movie. Actually, I haven't seen it yet so I shouldn't judge.

I don't generally like soups or noodle soups so there is something to be said when I find myself raving over it. For lunch on our second day in NYC, we went to Ippudo Ramen. I had heard many wonderful things about this place and was not disappointed in the least bit. The specialty here is ramen noodle soup, which people most often times will think about that instant ramen crap poor college students live on. Mos def not the same. The noodles here are made with so much love. It was silky with the perfect texture. I can't remember what everyone ordered but I had the shoyu ramen: Soy sauce flavored ramen noodle in a chicken and tonkotsu soup with pork loin chashu, menma, spinach, naruto, nori & scallions. It was the boring and safe way to go with ordering ramen but the broth was still very flavorful. Out of all the broths that I tried, my favorite was the miso ramen. It had this really nice buttery after taste. Mmmm. So YUMS! I decided pay a little extra to get the lunch special set that comes with a bowl of rice and your choice of meat as well as a small salad. Two people could share that package and be quite satisfied. I'm a hefty eater and wasn't able to finish the entire meal. I will mos def gonna go back, hopefully with big poppa next time.
Oh. My. Freaking. Gawd. It's quite apparent that I love all things cutesy and childlike. I sometimes have to stop myself from buying certain things and remind myself that I'm pushing thirty already. I've been mentally thinking about getting one of those eye masks to wear while I'm sleeping but never actually put any effort into looking for any. That is, until I came across Little Odd Forest. It's a site that sells all sorts of items in that really cute animated style that I'm seriously trying to avoid, but can't. These eye masks are ridiculously adorable. I want.

For dancouver's b-day, I got some folks together for dinner at Branch Water Tavern, one of many artisinal American food type of places that has been popping up all over Houston. Unfortunately, BWT does not take reservations for groups of more than seven for friday or saturday nights. ARGH! When we got there, although it was already really busy, the managers working that night really went out of their way to make sure that we got a table instead of just shutting us down. I was so thankful and appreciative. While waiting for the entire party to arrive, we munched on the complimentary biscuits and ordered some duck fat popcorn. I personally feel that the whole duck fat phenom is over-rated. Growing up in an Asian culture, you're pretty much accustomed to eating all types of weird and offal stuff. Although, I am rather picky and choose not to eat a lot of things. Pigs ear, intestines, stomach lining. Gross yes, but shocking, not so much. The duck fat popcorn was okay. You taste a hint of it in the first few bites but after that, it just tastes like regular popcorn. The food was all very mediocre. Everything was good and cooked well but my issue with places like this is always the same. FLAVOR PROFILE! So dull and boring! I'm not sure if I would go back unless someone else wanted to go there. With so many restaurants to choose from, I couldn't imagine both big poppa and I wanting to come here over other places. It ended up being quite the long evening. Dinner at BWT. Dessert at Epicure Cafe. Drinks at Gingerman's. Then more eating at Tan Tan.
