Who could ever forget Feist's super addicting song and performance for the Apple Nano commericial. I remember doing the dance along with her every time it came on TV. Her full name is Leslie Feist and she's a Canadian singer-songwriter who's also a member of the indie rock group Broken Social Scene. Miss Antsylily was telling me how Feist had a guest appearance on Sesame Street where she helped teach kids how to count by performing her song 1234. How cute and what a perfect song to use!

Trippin': South Padre Island - Shrimp Haus
90 Park Road Hwy. 100
South Padre Island, TX 78597
Miss Fabu wanted us to try out this place in SPI that had some of the best coconut shrimp. Keep in mind that we were already in SPI and didn't drive all the way to SPI for some coconut shrimp. The restaurant is adjacent to a Schlitterbahn and we could see all these people having a grand ole time in the water park. Jealous! I thot the coconut shrimp was pretty good but I'm pretty much always in favor of anything fried in any type of batter. Everything else was pretty average. I don't think I would find myself craving anything I had there the way I crave the coffee at the McAllen Stripes convenience store. Hah!

Persona Grata: Robert Horry
A bunch of us went out to celebrate Mochi's birthday this past weekend. After dinner at Grotto, we all went to Reign Lounge, located on the new and hip Washington drag. More on that later. The point of this blog entry is that Robert Horry was there that night and he let us take a picture with him! OMG he was like the NICEST guy EVAR! We didn't have our camera with us at first and he said that we could go get our camera and come back up a get a picture with him. So chacco and I ran to her car to get her camera, came back in, went into his reserved area where he got up and posed with us! How cool is that! And later on, he agreed to take another pic cos our other friends weren't able to get a pic with him the first time around and he was freaking cool as shiz about it. All smiles and just super good natured. He's so TALL! Especially with us shorty asian girls standing right next to him. Big poppa and some of the guys were being all haters and saying how Robert Horry only played like one minute in all his games and how he's retired and not that great. Jealous much?!? Haha. Well. The guy has a bunch of NBA Championship rings that he won while playing with the Rockets, Lakers and Spurs so that pretty much speaks for itself. I remember back then, everyone always joked about how he looked like Will Smith. But as he's getting older, I think he's looking more and more like CARLTON! He mos def doesn't look like he's almost forty that for sure.
Restaurant: The Glass Wall
933 Studewood St
Houston, TX 77008
Buddha e-mailed me about a month ago about trying out some restaurants for Houston Restaurant Week. So I took a look at what was on the list and what each place offered and almost didn't want to go and pay $35 per person for food that didn't make me salivate as I read the description of all the food. I'm telling ya! I'm not a foodie by any means what-so-ever! But what I do like to do is to go to nice restaurants and just sit there and enjoy the environment and scenery. If only it was ok to sit and order coffee and desserts at nice restaurants. I know you technically could, but as mean as some of you may think I am, I'm actually quite considerate and would never take up a servers table and possible big tip. So yeah. My oxy moronic self: I desire fine dining without the actual act of dining. I tell people all the time that I love watching people eat food that I would never eat. Like steak. It's weird. Unexplainable. And because I'm normally the picky one out of just about everyone I know, I was granted the duty of choosing the restaurant. Whenever I make dinner plans with friends, I usually get something along the lines of 'well, you decide since you're pickier'. AM I pickier? I think I'm quite the clever little girl. I've managed to trick everyone into letting me make all the decisions! So much power! Anyways. Using my 'I only eat chicken' technique, I was able to narrow it down to a couple of restaurants and from there, the first place I chose to try was The Glass Wall. I remember Mochi telling me she wanted to try it out so I made reservations for me, big poppa, Mochi and Buddha. The restaurant is located in the Heights, an area of Houston along with the Washington area that is steadily growing mainstream. The decor was very nice and relaxing and very New Yorky. Whatever that means. Haha! We were like five minutes late for our reservations but the hostess was very cool and seated us right away. I've read about some places (i.e. Textile) that will make you wait if you're late even though there are open tables. Enough with the freaking pompous act already peoples! We're in Houston. Not New York. And because I'm in one of my prolific writing moments, I'm totally going to go off topic and talk about how completely annoying it is that clubs make you wait in line even though it's not packed inside. I know the whole idea is to make it appear to passersby that this club is the happening place where everybody wants to be. But seriously. Give it up! It's not like we all already don't know what they're trying to do. I remember this one bouncer guy making big poppa and me wait. I gave a big huff, rolled my eyes and made some comment about how retarded his actions were. Soooooo. The bouncer guy made us wait even longer. Haha! Oh well. I don't care. I ended up having this eye-rolling fest as I stood their waiting and griping to big poppa. Now back to the present and on to the food at The Glass Wall. Not so great my friend. Everything that everyone had was just ok. Not great at all at The Glass Wall. We were discussing that perhaps the restaurant week menu did not represent the regular menu very well. Our friend Chia told us that she really liked her food when she went there and ordered off the regular menu. Maybe next time we'll go back there and do the same. Give it another try. Maybe. We had a really good server. Super nice and efficient. We stayed really late and were one of the few stragglers yet we didn't feel rushed at all.
Appetizers. Mochi and Buddha had the petite maryland crab cake with horseradish aioli, carolina slaw and GW house chips.
Big poppa and I had the field greens, fried goat cheese, tart tomato with vinaigrette dressing and olive oil fried bread. I love goat cheese and the way it was made for this salad was yums.
Entrees. Mochi had the potato chip crusted chicken fried steak with ground andouille cream gravy, garlic/sour cream mashers and green beans.
Buddha had the pork tenderloin with kahlua/pork belly beans, cornbread pudding and mustard cream. I forgot to take pictures when he got he his dish so you only get to what it looks like already half eaten.
Big poppa and I had the tandoori ½ chicken decorated basmati rice, spicy broccolini and yogurt raita. My chicken was quite dry so I didn't end up eating the whole thing. Big poppa said his was ok and finished his. The yogurt raita was bleh. The basmati rice was ok. I've had much better basmati rice like from actual Indian restaurants. The best part of the dish was the broccolini.
Desserts. Big poppa and Buddha had the strawberries with grand marnier sauce, warm biscuit and doubled cream.
Mochi and I had the raspberry/white chocolate bread pudding with brown butter sauce and whipped cream. The bread pudding is a hundred times better at ruggles. This one tasted really bready, nothing like the smooth texture you get with the bread at ruggles.
