Specs: Buddy Holly

I'm not the type to mind following a trend. I could make myself a shirt that says bandwagon jumper and wear it proudly. I've noticed a bunch of celebs are starting to wear those Buddy Holly glasses and I'm loving it! I have a tendency to embrace the nerdy geekish look to big poppa's dissatisfaction. Trying to look pretty just isn't important to me anymore. So I've been mulling it over for the past few months on whether I should purchase a pair of these chunky wayfarer styled specs. I really wanted them but I tried on a men's version at urbn and it looked completely whack on me. Like fobbish to the power of a hundred. But then I saw that urbn had a women's version that was slightly more feminine than the men's version. I decided last month that I would not buy it. But today, out of nowhere, I made the transaction. I'm so impulsive sometimes. Not good. To convince myself that I made the right decision, I looked at these pics of these celebs sporting the specs. Look how awesome they look! Of course, I'm aware that I won't be able to re-create that effect.

Trippin': Minturn - Turntable Restaurant

You make one uncertain turn and you find yourself in a little town where nothing opens until 4pm. We're in Minturn y'all! After arriving and getting situated at the house, everyone was super hungry. We decided to just drive around and find something to eat, which (min)turned out to be more challenging than you would think. It began to snowflake all around us as we parked on a small street lined with what was seemingly a bunch of shops owned by ma and pa. There was a darn good smell wafting through the air and as we eagerly went door to door in search of the source, we were disappointed to find out that everything was freaking closed! It was 3-4pm and the area was dead. Someone finally gathered up enough energy to look over and beyond and noticed some flashing lights. Finally! So we ended up eating at this diner-ish place called Turntable Restaurant. They sat us in the most tacky room EVAR! It was a collection of junk that the owners have acquired over the years. The food was your average diner food. It wasn't superb or outstanding but it was good enough for me. I'm not so picky. And yes, I had me a grilled chicken sandwich with onion rings. Other folks ordered chicken fried steak, philly cheese steak and almost everyone ordered the green chili. Supposedly Denver or whatever is known for their green chili. I'm not sure this was a good representation for it. On a more positive note, their portions were huge! So people at least got their money's worth. Our server/owner personality was the type of person who wrote every little detail down yet most of the orders still came out wrong. It's hard to get mad though when he was so nice and accommodating. When we got home, the hostel roomies knocked out til about 10pm or so. We only woke up to brush our teeth and shower, and then it was back to bed. C'est la vie!

Musik Mundi: Shiny Toy Guns

These folks are from Oklahoma? No Way! All this time, I thought Shiny Toy Guns just had to be some Euro band. But nope. They're from a city called Shawnee. Makes me wanna go: Hey Shawnee, it's yo berfday. We gonna party like it's yo berfday. Hah! You know, hip hop ain't my cuppa tea but for some reason, I've got hip hop lyrics on my mind all the time. So I've been listening to this band since their last album which had a bunch of good songs. For this new album, they've got a new female lead singer and you can mos def tell the difference. Carah Faye Charnow who sang on the old album gave their music a more electronic vibe. Their new singer, Sisely Treasure (cool first name!) has a more sing-songy voice that makes some of their music sound more trance-like. Well, to me it does. Since I'm so lazy, I decided to post this song cos I just used it for my most recent video. Before, this song was just ok to me. But now that I used it for the video, I now like the song ten times more. Go Shawnee!
