Restaurant: Pronto Cucinino

3191 W Holcombe Blvd
Houston, TX 77025

Pronto Cucinino is one of those restaurants that big poppa and I always drive and until one day we're like, let's try it out! So we go in with no expectations. Once inside, I learned that this place is also owned by the folks who own that trio of restaurants on W Dallas: Vincent's, Nino's and Grappino di Nino. Geez! How many ways can you do Italian? I've been to Vincent's and Nino's and they're not bad. My uncle used like going there so he would take me there on occasion when I was younger. Big poppa and I have been back several times and can tell you what we like and don't like so far. His favo Italian dish (whether it's authentic Italian, I don't know and I don't care) is the Chicken Marsala. His restaurant critique is based solely on how good the chicken marsala is. If it's yumz, then he restaurant is good. If it's not, then the restaurant sucks. Well, he didn't think the chicken marsala was very good here. Uh-oh! And usually when big poppa doesn't like a place, we don't tend to go back. The reason that we have gone back is cos they have these appetizer pizza squares that are incredibly GUT! OMGaudy it is delish! We always order the Margherita pizza square. The focaccia-like crust is nice and crunchy with a light brushing of evoo. The tomato sauce is perfect, not too salty. There are five dollops of mozzarella with a couple of basil leaves to finish. Perfection! Other things to try would be the Linguine Diavolo and the Grilled Pork Chop. Other things to not bother trying would be the Cannelloni and Chicken Parmigiano. The good thing about this place is that you order at the counter. You know what that means, no tipping necessary! I'm such a cheapo.

There were lots of chicken/rooster decorations. Since I'm a rooster, I dedicate these next few fotos to it.

The super fantastic margherita pizza squares. It's $2.75 a square. Not cheap at all!

Linguine Diavolo. The sauce is really good. Almost has a hint of Asian seasoning in it.

I had the grilled pork chop. It was slightly over-cooked but still tasty overall. It had a very home cooked feel to it.

The pork chop came with a side of sun-dried tomatoes and this super yummy creamy sauce. I mixed the two together and smothered my pork chop in it. I love creamy sauces.

Musik Mundi: Taylor Swift

My middle sistar was a fan of Taylor Swift long before I was. I just became a fan maybe a week or two ago. I didn't really care for her before cos I thought to myself, how could I possibly like the music of someone who is dating a Jo Bro? Hah! I was watching the tele (as usual) and this CSI promo came on. It was the one where Taylor Swift would play a part in. The music that was used for the promo was her You're Not Sorry track and the CSI folks did their own little remix on it. The small part that I heard I really liked! I spent some time trying to find the remix but wasn't so successful. I ended up settling for her original album version for a couple of days. Then yesterday, Perez Hilton informed the world that it was now available on iTunes. Yays! Luckily, baby sistar gives me all her iTunes GC's so if my trusty site doesn't have what I need, then I gots credit. The original is really pretty and is really nice the way it is. I also like the remix but there are parts that could have been better produced to enhance the melody of the song. I like her other radio stuff but it's not quite ipod worthy. I'm not so crazy about her voice but she's so awesome on all the other aspects that it's ok. She's getting air time on like a gazillion songs right now!

Trippin': Vail - Snowboarding Pt.1

The first time I ever tried snowboarding was about eight years ago. I wasn't able to do it then and remembered how incredibly difficult and frustrating it was just to get up onto the board. The most that I would 'snowboard' would be approximately two feet and then I would just eat it. Big poppa and I had been super excited and nervous at the same time about the big snowboarding trip. We're much older now. Our inactive bodies just aren't as capable as they once were. Our bodies mos def took a good beating. I fell over and over and over again. Overall, everyone in the group did really well and pretty much got the hang of it. More importantly, no one gave up! Although, I kinda sorta remember almost quitting. One thing that I didn't expect was Vail to be so freaking HIGH. I think our gondola dropped us off at some 12,000ft or so. It was crazy. Because of the lack of oxygen being that high up, we would move a few feet and everyone would already be breathing quite heavily. Like a bunch of asthmatic newbs. And my HEART! JEEZUS! It was beating hard and fast. Our group eventually got separated. The more advanced folks pretty much got restless and took off. If I were good, I wouldn't want to wait around either! Haha. Big poppa and I were intermediates and went off on our own. And then the super newbs took the anchor position. Somewhere along the way, big poppa and I made many wrong turns and eventually got lost. I became increasingly agitated as I realized that I completely sucked at this! I had flare-ups and threw temper tantrums while on the slopes. Whiny voice included for free. I felt horrible and terribly uncoordinated. My board had a mind of it's own. It turned when it wanted to. It slid down heel side when it wanted to. And it's mos favo thing to do was to go straight down. I hated that! I hate speed and so I would freak out and go crashing into the snow. Sometimes involuntary flips were involved. The altitude was also really getting to me. That along with the fact that my thigh muscles felt like they were burning. I seriously felt like giving up at times. I just wasn't getting it! I was wiped out and it took every ounce of energy I had to push up off the ground to get up. It was torture! At one point, we asked one of the ski patrol folks how much further it was until we reached the bottom. He grimly told us that we weren't even halfway down the mountain yet. WHAT?!? He suggested we board to the nearest ski lift and ride it down. I don't know how, but I found it in me to at least try to make it all the way down without taking the easy way out. So big poppa and I trudged along. Oh yeah, by the way, big poppa did just absolutely awesome! He picked it up so fast! I was so jealous that I couldn't do it. Eventually, we neared the bottom and alas! We saw people walking around at the base! I remember being at the top of this black diamond trail and was thisclose to just hopping onto to it. So what if I would practically fall and tumble all the way down. At least I would be back on regular land in seconds instead of minutes. I might of been delirious with hunger. Luckily, my level-headed big poppa was there to let me live to see another day. We took the dreadful and more friendly 'green' route. It was like another thirty minutes before we got down. Total time spent on the mountain from top to bottom? Frackin' FOUR hours!!! So yeah. That pretty much was the end of day 1 for us. Thinking back though, I might of did a lot of complaining but I think that I was actually a lot better than I thought or felt like I was at the time. And I do enjoy it. Really! I do! You should of seen us the next morning. Or even that night. Major soreness all around. I remember I had to pee really badly in the middle of the night and my arms were so sore from catching my falls that I couldn't even push up from bed to sit up and get up. I tried to will myself back to sleep but it wasn't gonna happen. I ended up just rolling over big poppa until I fell onto the floor. I rolled like I was freakin' whale! From there, it was much easier to get up. Haha. It hurt to move any part of the body. Like I said, our bodies took a pretty good beating. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to snowboard and take pictures at the same time so there aren't many action shots. It was a huge task in itself to have to remove the gloves to get the cammie out so it didn't happen much. My poor point-and-shoot cammie suffered some injuries though from the few times we did take it out.

You can't tell from these pictures but it was snowing lightly.

So once we got to the top, everyone strapped on their boards and off we went. About thirty feet to be exact. And from there, all we could do was lie down for a breather. So tiring!

As I mentioned before, it took big poppa and I like four hours to get down. Once we were there, we had no idears where we were. After asking around, we found out that we ended up about a mile away from where we started. So here we are waiting for the free shuttle that would take us back to our people's.

Reunited and it feels so good!

Trippin': Vail - Centre V

The Arrabelle
675 Lionshead Place
Vail, Co 81657

The first full day of snowboarding finally arrived. Everyone woke up super early (6AM!) cos we wanted to make it worth our money to get as much boarding time as possible. It took a while to get our boots on and to load up the car with all the gear. Once at the slopes, we were in search for a place to fuel up on some brekkie. Either we were in the wrong area or maybe it was just too early, but everything was closed! The only place that was open was this fancy schmancy French place called Centre V. When you're so hungry that you've got the shakes, bad decisions are made. Like deciding to go ahead and eat at Centre V, and then deciding that it was no big deal to pay $28.00 a person for their breakfast buffet. What?!? Crazy what hunger pains can do to people. At least items on their menu was included in the price. I have to say though, the food was really good and their hot chocolate was one of the best I've had. You know how they say high altitude makes for some good coffee? Well, it's TRUE! I always order a mocha at Starbuck's and the one I had there was like supremely yum-o. Hands down better than any other mochas that I've had at other Starbuck's. Miss Truffles and Miss Flower Child ordered some salmon and ham eggs benedict. It looked so good! It was my first time trying eggs benedict and I'm thinking me likey some hollandaise sauce! I stuck to an all American brekkie. Croissants with some over easy eggs, bacon, ham and whatever else. I was frackin' STUFFED! Man, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! When I went to go wash up afterwards, I realized that the restaurant we were dining at was part of this super luxurious hotel called Arrabelle. No wonder!

Don't those eggs benedict just stimulate your salivary glands.

Some yogurt parfait and some containers of fruit spread. Fancy right?!? I wanted to steal some of those jars but figured it would hurt to land on them while snowboarding.
