Restaurant: HK Dim Sum

9889 Bellaire Blvd
Houston, TX 77036

The selection of restaurants in the Chinatown continue to expand exponentially. Good for us consumers of Asian cuisine. Bad for the folks who have been there since day one. Can there be too many pho places. Uh. YEAH. Can there ever be too many dim sum places to choose from? No way jo zay. 40 minute waits on the weekends for a table. Someone please open up more yummy dim sum places! And that is exactly what is happening. But not fast enough. The latest to pop up is HK Dim Sum, located in the Dun Huang Plaza along with the already well established Cafe 101, Juice Box and FuFu Cafe. Man, the landlord of this booming center must be kicking up his heels in the air. I've been wanting to try the place out but every time we pass by, we always decide on something else. Miss Antsylily called me one day and told me she was there. And although I couldn't make it out, it just made me decide that it was time to make an official visit. So we did. The dim sum there is prolly comparable to Dim Sum King. What makes me think that is because they are both the only places in that put corn in the char siu cheung fun (rice noodle with Chinese BBQ pork). It's not bad but it's a bit distracting to my buds, mayne. My taste buds that is. The place is really small. No carts. You enter the qty of the items that you want on a piece of paper. Pro. You get all that you want without having to chase and hunt down the premium carts. Con. You don't get any yummy dumplings right away. But overall, it's pretty good and I would go back there. The only thing that would make me hesitate in going there would be the wait since the place is so small. And it's kinda cramped. The best thing about dim sum is that you get so much variety. Brilliant concept! Another thing to know is that they also have a separate menu of Malaysian entrees. I don't think I've ever tried Malaysian cuisine. Do I want to?
