Oh Really?: Dog Sledding

Last week, my Monday morning began with this article from the vancouver sun. During the winter olympics, a tourism/activities company purchased a bunch of dogs in anticipation of the amount of people that would be coming into the area that would be interested in dog sledding. Now that the winter olympics have come and gone, business has gone down dramatically, and Outdoors Adventures was left with more dogs than they could support. So their solution to this problem was a mass execution of a hundred dogs, sometimes shot right in front of the other dogs. The dogs were buried in a mass grave and it was hard to tell if any had been buried alive. Reading this article made me so ANGRY! I had tears in my eyes! This helped affirm my belief in not partaking in anything that involves any type of working animals. There's a line in the article that explains it best:

"There is a problem with the sled dog industry in general. People see these 20 sled dogs, an idyllic setting with snow in the background and think how great. But what they don’t see is the 200 dogs tethered and sleeping out back, chained to a barrel."

I hope that one day, dog sledding for the sake of tourism or adventure seeking should be banned. Or anything involving working animals should be BANNED. These poor animals are only seen as a source of income and nothing more. If they don't make money, then what becomes of them?
